Primed for complex applications on a strict delivery deadline, the CAP9 microcontroller-based, system-on-chip platform features high-speed local memory, a range of peripherals, and a metal-programmable (MP) block that allows designers to add custom logic on-chip. Leveraging the AT91SAM MCU architecture, the platform forecasts application-specific products to be developed in a fraction of the time and cost of a standard-cell or gate array ASIC. The CAP platform embraces the AT91CAP9S series MCU. The device employs a 200-MHz ARM926EJ-S core with 16 KB of program and data cache, 32 KB of SRAM, 32 KB of ROM, an external bus interface with ECC for NAND flash and SmartMedia, and either 250K or 500K metal-programmable gates. It also integrates a system controller, debug interface to the ARM core via a debug unit, and an advanced interrupt controller. Peripherals and interfaces include full-speed USB host, USB 2.0, 10/100 Ethernet MAC, image sensor interface, 2.0A and 2.0B CAN controllers, LCD controller, MCI, SSC, PWM, LCD, and AC97 controllers, SPI master and slave, two USARTs, three 16-bit timer counters, an 8-channel, 10-bit a/d converter, and supervisory functions. Optional hardware AES/TDES encryption/decryption engines are also available. For design support, the AT91CAP9-DK development board implements the fixed portion of the CAP device as a MCU product, coupled to a high-density FPGA that emulates the MP Block. The board also includes a range of memories and physical interfaces and connectors. Pricing for the CAP NRE starts at $150,000 and the AT91CAP9S is priced at $13 each/100,000.
