cPCI Cards Deliver AMD-K6 Performance To Industrial Apps

Nov. 1, 2000

Claiming to bring improved price-performance to embedded industrial applications over comparable Intel-based single-board computers (SBCs), the MEN F2 3U and MEN D2 6U CompactPCI (cPCI) SBCs incorporate 500-MHz AMD K6-2+ and K6-III+ processors, respectively. The Super Socket 7 K6 processors are said to consume less power than other CPUs with comparable performance.
Both cards include shockproof on-board DRAM, watchdogs to monitor temperature, voltage, fan operation and timeouts, an industrial BIOS capable of operating the CPU board without graphics, and PXI trigger lines for data acquisition applications. They also include PC-MIP slots, four serial ports, a 100Base-T Ethernet interface, and an interface to the universal serial bus (USB). Pricing starts at $1,699 for the F2 and $2,199 for the D2 in single units.
