Dual-Channel Buffer Preserves Signal Integrity At PCIe 2.0 Speeds

A dual-channel buffer and equalizer is designed to re-drive PCIe 1.0 and PCIe 2.0 signals at up to 5.0-Gbits/s data rates. This device employs two identical signal-amplitude buffers with idle/receive detection to protect against unwanted noise at the output. To further preserve signal integrity, the MAX4950A features programmable input equalization and programmable output de-emphasis to compensate for circuit board losses. The MAX4950A is well suited for desktop computers, notebook PCs, workstations, and servers that must carry signals through connectors and/or over long lengths of cable, stripline, or microstrip line. It features a power-save mode to reduce quiescent supply current in applications where all channels operate simultaneously. In addition, an enable pin allows the device to be placed in standby mode to further conserve power. The MAX4950A operates from a single 3.3-V supply, and is fully specified over the 0°C to +70°C commercial temperature range. It’s available in a 6.0-mm x 6.0-mm, 36-pin TQFN package.
