Laser Navigation Sensor Handles High-End Gaming

Oct. 8, 2008
The ADNS-9500 laser navigation sensor from Avago Technologies includes a powerful engine that enhances motion detection and resolution to provide precise tracking for gaming motion input devices.

Based on the LaserStream optical navigation technology, the ADNS-9500 high-performance laser navigation sensor targets high-end professional gaming applications. The sensor incorporates a powerful navigation engine that enables very-high-speed motion detection and high resolution (16 bits) to provide precise tracking capabilities. The device is well-suited for use in corded or cordless gaming laser mice, optical trackballs, and a variety of motion input devices. The ADNS-9500 incorporates an embedded pre-calibrated VCSEL in a single chip-on-board package to simplify manufacturing complexity. A separate round lens (ADNS-6190-002) is all that is needed to provide a complete and compact navigation system that has no moving parts. Moreover, no laser calibration process is required to complete the sensor package, making it ideal for high-volume assembly. Some of the enhanced features offered by the ADNS-9500 include programmable frame rate and resolution, as well as configurable lift detection to satisfy the preferences of PC gamers. The ADNS-9500 costs $4.00 each in quantities of 10,000. Samples and production quantities are available now. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, San Jose, CA. (800) 235-0312.
