Utilizing an integrated voltage regulator, this single-chip LIN bus interface transceiver eliminates the need for an additional external regulator IC. By combining the MCP201 LIN transceiver with a PICmicro microcontroller, designers can build a complete LIN bus solution. The new 8-pin MCP201 transceiver features an on-board 5V ±5% voltage regulator with a maximum output current of 50 milliamps. It supports a baud rate up to 20 Kb and is available in a -40°C to 125°C temperature range. Targeted for automotive sub-bus systems connected to a LIN bus system, the IC can be used for interior and exterior mirrors, HVAC blower motors, sensors and air doors, seat controls, door controls, steering wheel, sun roof motors, compass, garage door openers, visors, light control, engine cooling fan, glow plug control, and battery sensors. Appliance and industrial markets are also utilizing LIN bus connectivity in feature rich equipment that have multiple connected nodes, such as washing machines, refrigerators, stoves and ovens, manufacturing equipment and metal working machines. Available in an 8-pin SOIC package, the MCP201 transceivers are priced at $1.25 each/10,000. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (480) 792-7668.
