Low-cost and low power consumption are among the key features touted by the MZ104, an x86 single-board computer (SBC) in a PC/104 format. Measuring 3.55" x 3.775" and spanning a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the compact SBC also claims to be the industry’s first to use the MachZ system-on-a-chip (SoC) developed by ZF Linux Devices. This SoC device includes a 586, 133-MHz processor with both the ISA and PCI bus derived from the north and south bridge core logic; it also packs multiple I/O support. To reduce power consumption, the CPU clock can be scaled down from 133 MHz to 33 MHz via a jumper.
The MZ104 uses a six-layer circuit board, allowing all components to be mounted on the topside. Standard features include two RS-232 serial ports, USB and parallel ports, an I2C bus, dual watchdog timers, support for up to 128 MB of SDRAM, and a disk-on-chip socket. The board supports any operating system capable of running on a standard PC with FPU, such as Linux, DOS, and Windows 9x/NT/CE. Price is $249.
