Reportedly the first embedded microcontroller with integrated V.22 bis modem, the CMX850 is an 80C51 microcontroller enhanced with 8 KB of RAM, an integral modem capable of V22bis, V.22, V.23, V.21, and Bell and up to 35 GPIOs. It is also capable of directly accessing 4 MB of external memory through page-mode addressing. Other features include a 16x8 keyboard encoder, an interface for an external LCD controller, CAS tone detection and generation, advanced power management, dual clock operation, watch dog timer, real-time clock, 2-input A/D converter, and two low-power PWM outputs. Typical applications for the device are SMS and ADSI terminals, telemetry and meter reading systems, security systems, feature phones, least-cost routers, EPOS terminals, and e-mail and Internet appliances.
