MEN Micro's Universal Submodule (USM) (see figure) can plug into PMC or M-Modules mezzanine boards that plug into standard carrier boards. This allows the standard mezzanine cards to hold FPGAs or compute platforms while interface circuitry is housed on the USM. Custom commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) can be attained with simpler, custom USM boards while using standard carrier and mezzanine cards. A complete development package starts at $2654, including an Altera FPGA, 32-Mbyte DRAM, and 2 Mbytes of flash.
