Aimed at dc-to-dc conversion applications in notebook PCs and PDAs, the Si9135LG and Si9136LG power-supply conversion ICs are said to require 20% fewer external components than typical implementations. With a total of five power outputs, both devices can reach conversion efficiencies approaching 95%.The ICs provide dc-to-dc conversion of system battery or charger output in order to meet the main bus-voltage requirements of portable computer systems. They're said to be the first such devices to do so without need for a transformer on the 12V output and require only an inductor. As a result, the overall conversion circuit takes a significantly smaller board area and height profile than other implementations. Both ICs offer two synchronous-buck converters and a non-isolated buck-boost flyback converter.
