San Luis Obispo, CA-A new multiprocessing technology that will allow the CompactPCI bus to support several independent but tightly coupled PC architecture processor boards in a single system has been introduced by Ziatech Corp. Slated for formal product introduction in the first quarter of next year, the system will combine multiple CPU boards in a single system, communicating with each other over the CompactPCI backplane. Each CPU will have the capability to support a local version of Windows 98/NT, QNX, or VxWorks, as well as its own set of peripherals. The multiprocessing systems accommodate 14 independent processor boards in a standard chassis. The technology uses Intel's PCI-to-PCI bridge chip designed to bridge separate host and local processor domains within a computer system.
