According to the company, the typical time required for performing thermal analysis on a circuit board ranges from 20 to 30 minutes when using currently available software applications. To significantly improve on this performance, the BETAsoft-Board application takes into consideration sophisticated modeling concepts, such as finite difference scheme with locally refined meshes, semi- empirical heat transfer correlations, and layered-board conduction. The software, as a result, is capable of analyzing a board with more than 400 components on an 800 MHz PC in just 20 seconds. This is said to be a factor of 50 to 100 times faster than comparable software. The company cites another example: a 525- component board designed for use in a satellite can be analyzed in 12 seconds on an 800 MHz PC.
