Offering data rates of 125 Mbps, this new transceiver can operate over an extended range and under extreme temperatures and can be implemented in FDDI backbones, point-to-point links for peripheral I/O or PBX intermode links, FDDI ring networks, and network interface cards. It is compatible with all standard FDDI chipsets. Its 9-pin footprint is identical to that of LED-based multimode modules to let one board be configured for either multimode 62.5/125-µm or single-mode 9/125-µm optical fiber operation. The device offers an SC duplex single-mode connector interface and can be mated with simplex or duplex optical connectors that meet JIS C 5873 standards.
