Specifically targeted at Universal Serial Bus (USB) hubs integrated into motherboards, the CY7C65XXX line of USB microcontrollers allows PC manufacturers to provide four USB downstream ports as opposed to the current standard of just two. The device permits end users to plug in two additional USB peripherals into the PC without the need for a standalone hub. The motherboard hub chip offers up to 8 kbytes of EPROM and up to 22 general-purpose I/Os, allowing a high level of customization. It also features an I2C interface for external communication. A built-in watchdog timer that requires no external timer circuitry and offers internal clock manipulation using a 6-MHz external crystal oscillator to ensure low EMI.
