Variable Attenuator Module Targets Wireless Infrastructure Design

The ALM-38140 is a fully-matched wideband variable attenuator module for use in a range of broadband systems, chiefly wireless infrastructure applications such as CATV, WCDMA, VSAT, WiMAX, and cellular base-station applications. It is a 50-MHz to 4-GHz PIN diode attenuator module that comes housed in a miniature 3.8-mm by 3.8-mm by 1.0-mm multiple-chip-on board (MCOB) package with 6-pin configuration pads. Designed with broadband input and output match, the ALM-38140 does not require any external RF matching component to operate. In addition, narrow-band performance can be enhanced by applying a single external inductor. The ALM-38140 features high power handling capabilities (P1 dB>30 dBm @ 1900 MHz), good linearity performance (IIP3: 60 dBm @ 1900 MHz) and excellent dynamic range (35 dB @ 1900 MHz). With broadband coverage, this miniature variable attenuator module is well suited for use in automatic gain control and temperature compensation applications operating within the 50- to 4000-MHz frequency range.
