Video Card Taps Dual Architecture To Rev Up Performance

Aug. 1, 2000

A powerful PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) AGP video graphics module has been developed that employs a dual architecture for offloading onto a 64-bit, 100-MHz memory bus the PCI bus's graphics and video traffic. This enables the card's Intel 740 graphics accelerator chip to access video memory at speeds of up to 800 Mbytes/s.
Called Angelo, the plug-and-play PMC module also packs 8 MB of high-speed (100 MHz) video RAM, enabling the card to deliver resolutions as high as 1600 x 1200 with 32-bit color and refresh rates of up to 72 Hz. A 15-pin VGA connector is available for connecting Angelo to a monitor.
The dual-architecture card is designed to make it easy to add high-performance, high-resolution graphics to VMEbus and CompactPCI baseboards at a cost considerably below that for standalone VME and cPCI graphic cards. Angelo comes ready to run with an on-board video BIOS and OS drivers and is targeted for use in medical, military and industrial systems. Price: $392 each.
