London, England and San Diego, CA: A joint technical trial of the MediaFLO System was successfully completed in the United Kingdom by Qualcomm and British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB). The technical trial, conducted over a two-month period, featured 11 channels from the BSkyB content menu delivered to non-commercial devices from Qualcomm. Its overall goal was to demonstrate the performance of Qualcomm’s MediaFLO System in both laboratory and mixed field-test environments.

Factors such as total throughput, single frequency network, network acquisition, channelswitching times, layered modulation, and video-codec performance were evaluated. In addition to BSkyB and Qualcomm, infrastructure provider Arqiva also took part in the trial.
