Enlisting a Freescale MPC8540 PowerQUICC III RISC processor, the EB8540 computer on module provides up to 1,850 MIPS (based on Dhrystone 2.1) at a clock speed of 800 MHz. For security-critical apps, it accommodates an MPC8541 processor, which includes a security engine for IPSec, DES, 3DES, and AES encryption. The module operates without the aid of a fan, offers a multitude of I/O connection options, and is intended for use as an add-on component for customized embedded systems. Features include one Fast and two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, up to six serial interfaces, an optional CAN bus, watchdog timer, and real-time clock. Additionally, the 75 mm x 115 mm module supports up to 512 MB of DDR SDRAM, up to 32 MB of flash memory, and 1 MB of battery-buffered SRAM. Price is $450 each in OEM quantities.
