In a chip scale package measuring 2 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.625 mm, the TPS61050 1.2A LED driver operates at a 2-MHz switching frequency, allowing for the use of low-profile 2.2-µH inductors. The device also employs an inductive, fixed-frequency PWM

In a chip scale package measuring 2 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.625 mm, the TPS61050 1.2A LED driver operates at a 2-MHz switching frequency, allowing for the use of low-profile 2.2-µH inductors. The device also employs an inductive, fixed-frequency PWM control scheme, facilitated by small external components, to reduce total solution size to less than 25 mm x 25 mm. It operates as a regulated current source as well as a standard voltage-boost regulator. For flexibility, the device’s LED current or the output voltage can be programmed via its I2C-compatible interface. Other features include four operational modes, a shutdown current of 0.3 mA, and efficiency up to 96%. Available in a 12-pin, 2 mm x 1.5 mm wafer chip scale package and a 10-pin QFN, price starts at $1.40 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
