DC/DC Converter Operates At 94% Efficiency

Nov. 1, 2001

Powered by one or several batteries, the ZXSC300 dc/dc boost converter IC provides a programmable, constant-current drive for white LEDs. The device maintains a conversion efficiency of 94% and, when mated with a low saturation voltage transistor, can drive multiple white LEDs in series or parallel using a wide range of input voltages. The efficiency of the new dc/dc converter is said to remain constant at voltages as low as 0.8V. The ZXSC300 dc/dc boost converter IC comes in a SOT23-5 package and is priced at $0.37 each in quantities of 1,000; a low voltage saturation transistor, the FMMT617, is available in a SOT23 package.
