Careers Coalition Celebrates Manufacturing Day by Looking to the Manufacturers of Tomorrow

Oct. 1, 2021
We look at the past and the present all the time—now we need to look to the workforce of the future.

We at Machine Design try to make every day Manufacturing Day by highlighting the amazing innovations that companies—both big and small—create that make the manufacturing industry smarter, more efficient and safer. (With manufacturing of course such a critical part of the electronics industry, Electronic Design joins Machine Design in celebrating Manufacturing Day.)

Every month, we talk about the manufacturing industry with our PMI Index report. In this report, we discuss growth trends, implications and challenges for some larger sectors within manufacturing. These analyses come from real-time reports from companies working their way out of real-time issues—like supply chain gaps that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking back and analyzing the steps we’ve taken to improve manufacturing processes is something we do well.

But we also need to look to the future.

With a labor shortage running rampant, the need for skilled workers has reached the forefront of manufacturing needs.

The STEM Careers Coalition is honoring this holiday by inspiring students and educators to explore the realm of modern manufacturing. Together with Discovery Education, the Coalition is offering manufacturing career profiles, student activities and classroom activities sourced from organizations like Boeing, Sanofi, Stanley Black & Decker, Microsoft and the Caterpillar Foundation.

All resources are available at no-cost on the STEM Career Coalition website and through Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform on the STEM Careers channel.
