For applications that require high-current switching – 100A to 1,000A – Perfect Switch, LLC offers a POWER-GATE series of solid-state DC relays and isolators. The firm uses large numbers of arrayed MOSFETS and patented high ratio geometry assembly technology to build devices that can handle up to 1,000 A DC without requiring heat sinks or airflow. Frank Fogleman, vice president of engineering, said the devices provide a high-performance alternative to mechanical relays that draw significantly more power, arc internally, and may be susceptible to voltage spikes that can damage equipment. A new plastic insert molded package designed for OEMs will debut shortly. Prices range from $250 to $350 in single-unit quantities.
