Promising to simplify the design of SD card applications, the FXL2SD106 low-voltage, dual-supply SD interface voltage translator integrates automatic direction control, allowing the device to sense and control the direction data should flow without a direction control pin. This eliminates the need to program the GPIO for direction control and reduces the number of pins necessary for controlling the translator from 20 to 16 pins. In a 16-pin, 2.5 mm x 3.5 mm DQFN with no signal pins in the center of the package, the device also protects SD cards from ESD events by providing ESD protection on the B side up to 12 kV. Price is $0.42 each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR CORP. South Portland, ME. (800) 341-0392.
