Dual-Loop Laser Diode Driver Optimizes Laser Performance

Aug. 1, 2001

The new ADN2841 laser diode driver features multi-rate operation from 155 Mbps to 2.7 Gbps as well as dual-loop control. The latter enables fiber optic transmitter manufacturers to deliver consistent optical performance over a wide range of temperatures and operating conditions. The driver actively maintains consistent laser performance by continuously sensing the optical output and correcting it for variations caused by changes in operating temperature and laser diode degradation. Its dual-loop architecture enables the driver to work with any standard monitor photo diode, while avoiding any data format limitations. Available in both 7 mm x 7 mm 48-lead and 5 mm x 5 mm 32-lead chip-scale packages, the ADN2841 is priced at $24 each/1,000, ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
