Read/Write Preamps Target PC Hard Drives

Targeting hard disk drives performing at 7,500 rpm and delivering transfer rates of 700 Mb/s, the SR1761A and SR1766A preamplifier ICs are said to offer extended data rates, low power consumption, and superior noise rejection. The devices feature a controlled-impedance architecture said to be suitable for use with giant magneto-resistive (GMR) head/stack systems. They feature a read-input noise of just 0.55 nV/sq. root Hz, a 450-ps nominal write-current rise time, and fast write-to-read recovery. Both devices operate from ±5V power supplies. Other features include fully programmable operations through a high-speed serial port. The four-channel SR1761A is available in a 38-pin TSSOP PowerPad package with prices starting at $3.65 each/100. The four-channel SR1766A comes in a 30-pin TSSOP with prices starting at $3.45 each/100.
