STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments are sampling the industry's first standard cdma2000 1xEV-DV solution. Considered a strong technology migration path for cdma2000 operators, the 1xEV-DV standard provides users with broadband capabilities via their mobile phones, PDAs and other mobile devices.

The companies claim this will enable internet connectivity at ten times the speeds provided by current cdma2000 1X and GPRS solutions, while simultaneously supporting the voice capability of cdma2000 1X.

To ensure availability of devices and equipment ready for commercial deployment of 1xEV-DV technology, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments are collaborating with Nokia for interoperability testing with South Korea-based LGE's infrastructure unit. This testing is in support of wireless operator LG Telecom's planned commercial deployment of EV-DV services in South Korea.

The VN7100 wideband modulation analyser from Yokogawa Measurement Technologies features a maximum analysis bandwidth of 168 MHz which is the world's highest for this product class, says the company. This makes it ideally suited to the development and evaluation of the next generation of mobile and wireless LAN systems. The instrument is designed to be upgradable with software options so that it 'future-proofed' for addressing new wireless technologies as they emerge.
