London, England: Freescale Semiconductor broadened its 32bit ColdFire USB device family, delivering flexible USB connectivity for a range of industrial applications. The newest members include the MCF5221x microcontroller (MCU) family with Full-Speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) and the MCF5253 embedded processor with Hi- Speed USB OTG.

By using optimised architecture designed for low operating voltage, the ColdFire devices are designed to deliver low power consumption. The devices come standard with a complementary USB software stack created in collaboration with CMX Systems.

USB OTG gives developers the option of using the on-chip USB module as a USB device or a USB host. It also allows multiple USB devices to communicate without a host interface, suiting it for system-to-system communication applications.
