Molex Incorporated augments its SolarSpec™ portfolio of products with the introduction of rugged, IP67-sealed SolarSpec DC Connectors that are designed for direct connection to solar junction boxes, field installations and photovoltaic (PV) grid wiring.

The SolarSpec DC Connector is the latest addition to Molex's SolarSpec range of connector and cable assemblies for solar applications.. Its innovative internal locking mechanism prevents accidental or unauthorized decoupling of the connector during service in the field, which is imperative in the solar industry. Offering exceptional efficiency, the contact resistance of the SolarSpec DC Connector is <0.5 milliohms. The contact can handle as much as 30.0A and accommodates 2.50mm2 and 4.00 to 6.00 mm2 (14 and 12 to 10 AWG) cable. The SolarSpec DC Connectors remain fully sealed when mated and have an enhanced strain relief design to avoid cable overstressing and ensure the integrity of the cable sealing.

SolarSpec DC Connectors are IP67-sealed to protect against the ingress of dust and water, and the housing body is resistant to UV and ozone damage. Simple snap-lock mating allows for quick and easy assembly, in the factory or field, with an audible click to ensure successful mating. The innovative touch-proof safety design of the SolarSpec DC Connector ensures that installers and maintenance engineers are protected from electrical current even during mating and decoupling operations. In addition, the molded ribs of the SolarSpec DC Connector housing surface allow for secure gripping, especially while wearing work gloves.

The NEC 2008 (690.33) and NFPA 70 US-code compliant solution developed by Molex is an innovative internal locking mechanism that prevents accidental or unauthorized decoupling of the connector during service in the field. It is protected by latch guards and therefore no additional protection sleeve is needed.

The pin (male) and socket (female) SolarSpec DC Connectors are available individually, as standard or custom cable assemblies, or supplied together with the SolarSpec Junction Box from Molex for PV panels. They are compliant with the most stringent quality standards for solar applications by TÜV and UL to ensure long service life in harsh environments. A service tool is available from Molex to release the internal safety locking mechanism, together with a ratchet-design crimp hand tool for easy termination.
