The MCP2155 IrDA Protocol Stack Handler is ideally suited for data communications equipment (DCE) applications. It employs patented technology to integrate the complex IrDA protocol stack, including Ir link access (IrLAP), Ir link management (IrLMP), tiny transport protocol (Tiny TP), IrComm layers, and a portion of the IrPHY with bit encoding/decoding, into one device.

This stack handler provides ring indicate (RI), carrier detect (CD), and data terminal ready (DTR) signal information back to the primary as required in DCE applications. It simplifies a system designer's ability to add IrDA standard wireless communication capability to embedded systems. Also, the MCP2155 connects to standard microcontroller UART peripherals and infrared transceivers.

The MCP2155 is available in 20-pin SSOP, 18-pin PDIP, and SOIC packages. Pricing starts at $5.47 each in 1000-unit quantities.
