Axelera’s artificial-intelligence (AI) processing unit (AIPU), akin to the neural processing units (NPUs), is designed to handle AI inferencing while using very little power. The company’s quad-core Metis AIPU delivers 214 TOPS at under 4 W. It’s available as a chip as well as on boards like Axelera’s M.2 module (see figure). Their latest Europa delivers up to 629 TOPS and can handle even more streams.
I talked with Alexis Crowell, General Manager of Americas & Global CMO, about the Metis and Europa chips, as well as Axelera’s Voyager SDK.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

Alexis Crowell is General Manager of Americas & Global CMO at Alexera AI. Alexis joined Axelera AI in October 2024 as the company’s first Chief Marketing Officer and then added GM of the Americas to her remit in July of 2025.
Prior to joining Axelera AI, Alexis was vice president and CTO of Asia Pacific and Japan for Intel Corporation, where she and her team were responsible for successful deployments of computing technology across a variety of use cases and industries.
