The figures showed that North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $2.0025 billion in billings worldwide in August (on a three-month average basis). That figure is down 1.4% from July, and down 10.5% from August 2018’s $2.237 billion. While the month-to-month comparison is slightly negative, the year-over-year deficit has shrunk significantly since ballooning to -28.5% in April of this year, having improved each month since.
Monthly billings haven’t been in year-over-year growth territory since October 2018 (+0.5%).
“August billings of North American equipment manufacturers declined 1% relative to July levels,” said Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI. “However, even though the industry is facing headwinds, monthly billings levels have remained above $2 billion for the past four months.”
