Claiming performance barrier-breaking benchmarks, the Typhoon family of dc/dc converters employs patent-pending power conversion technology to maximize efficiency, output and transient response while also minimizing size. The family includes a single-output, eighth-brick converter capable of delivering up to 40A at 1.8V and two dual-output quarter-bricks providing up to 20A per channel at either 3V/1.2V or 3.3V/1.8V. Each member accepts inputs of up to 48V and, thanks to planar in-board transformer structures, a maximum height of only 7.7 mm. The through-hole, 1.8V eighth-brick has an efficiency of 89% at full load, giving a power density of >180 W/in.3. Users reportedly can substitute this converter for a 40A quarter-brick to reduce the footprint by 38%. Eventually, single-output models in the family will include 1.2V, 2.5V and 3.3V output models. The dual-output quarter-bricks also have a through-hole design and feature independently regulated outputs and an efficiency of 90% at full load. Future models will include 3.3V/2.5V and 5.0V/3.3V output configurations. Prices for single- and dual-output converters are $64.50 and $92 each/1,000, respectively.
