Groomed for a spectrum of audio applications, the 200-MHz TMS320C6722, 250-MHz TMS320C6726, and 300-MHz TMS320C6727 floating-point digital signal processors employ a C67x-based core, which is described as a C-efficient, VLIW architecture offering significant improvements. These include a dMAX DMA engine, mixed instructions (32-bit x 32-bit and 32-bit x 64-bit multiplication with 64-bit results), a flat-memory model, 64 internal registers, and a 32 KB instruction cache. Although the number of peripherals varies depending on the processor, each device includes up to three McASPs, an HPI, RTI, EMIF, and two SPI interfaces, two I2C interfaces, and one PLL. Design support is available via the Professional Audio Development Kit (PADK) from Lyrtech Signal Processing. The kit allows users to evaluate device performance and begin product development without having to first develop a prototype board. Sampling now with production scheduled for the fourth quarter, volume prices for the C6722, C6726, and C6727 are $9.95, $14.10, and $19.95, respectively. Price for the PADK is $1,995.
