Created to lower costs, conserve space and consume less power, the mini-DIL optical receiver modules include APD or PIN photodetectors and operate at up to 3 Gb/s within the 1,300 to 1,600 nm wavelength range. The receivers also supply the high bandwidth needed for forward error correction (FEC). They fit within an eight-pin mini-DIL package with a single-mode optical fiber pigtail. APD versions provide -33 dBm typical sensitivity and include integral temperature sensing thermistors to optimize bias control. The modules' differential output offers an enhanced interface to on-board electronics and they operate from a single 3.3V or 5V power supply. To achieve low power consumption, typically 0.2W, and low failure rates, the modules employ SiGe transimpedance amplifiers. For price, call ERICSSON MICROELECTRONICS INC. Richardson, TX.
