IndustryÕs Fastest 14-Bit SAR ADC Delivers 3 Msamples/s

Nov. 1, 2001

Introduced as the industryÕs fastest 14-bit successive approximation register (SAR) a/d converter, the AD7484 provides a parallel interface with throughput rates up to 3 Msamples/s. Interfacing is via standard control lines making the converter compatible with microcontrollers and DSPs. Other features include input frequencies in excess of 50 MHz, a power dissipation of 80 mW at the highest throughput speed, 5 µW standby mode, and an on-chip 2.5V reference. The device also accommodates an external 2.5V reference and provides an 8% over-range capability via a fifteenth bit. A 12-bit version of this device, the AD7482, is also available as well as an evaluation board. Both devices come in a 48-lead LQFP and operate over temperatures from -40ûC to 85ûC. Pricing for the AD7484 and the AD7482 devices is $19 and $7, respectively, each/1,000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
