The ERT-3280 series reflective optical sensor combines a high-output gallium-arsenide (GaAs) infrared emitting diode (IRED) with a high-sensitivity phototransistor in a 2.7- by 3.2- by 1.4-mm package. It has a sensing distance of 1 mm and a high switching speed with 30-µs rise and 25-µs fall times. The device operates with an infrared wavelength of 940 nm from &8722;25°C to 85°C. The ERT-3280 comes in a flat surface-mount-compatible or a pc-board-mount package. It's available now with prices starting at $0.72 each in 1000-unit quantities.
