Device Protects Cell Phone Batteries

Oct. 1, 2000

Claiming to be the industry's smallest battery protector, the UCC3952A measures only 3.4 mm x 4.55 mm and is also said to be the industry's first battery protector to meet the size requirements for the emerging 4-mm cell phone batteries. The device integrates all necessary circuitry and requires only one external 0.1 µF capacitor, which translates into a complete protection circuit that occupies only 25 mm2 of board space. Other features include a supply current of only 5 µA, a current handling capacity up to 3A, and a choice of four standard overvoltage protection levels from 4.2V to 4.35V. Prices start at $1.99 each/1, 000.
