Targeting Internet telephony, cable modem, DSL, and fixed wireless applications, this highly integrated IP-Phone VoIP chip integrates a DSP engine with a RISC coprocessor to provide hardware acceleration. The DSP engine, called VoiceDSP, also integrates on-chip an Ethernet switch and memory controller, along with peripheral functions. VoiceDSP operates as a custom DSP with dual MACs and a customized hardware accelerator to support multi-channel speech vocoders, real-time facsimile relay, and telephony functions, including line and acoustic echo cancellation, DTMF, CPT and caller ID. The processor supports the RTOS, TCP/UDP/IP and RTP protocol stacks, signal protocols, jitter buffering and device drivers, along with the application software. The scalable IP-Phone chip has 3.3V I/O with a 1.8V core and JTAG interface. Starting price for the 256-pin QFP is $12 each/10K. A reference design board and related software are also available.
