Communicating through free Active X software, the FCIC010 system on chip (SoC) promises to ease control, automation, and data acquisition in power, motion, lighting, and flow applications. The device includes 16 I/O lines, five analog inputs, one interval timer, one event counter, a running clock, three power-driver outputs, and EEPROM calibration. An embedded real-time operating system performs digital filtering, error detection, and synchronization of hardware events. The device also provides interrupt-driven, closed-loop PC updates at 12.8-ms intervals through a multi-drop, addressable serial bus. An isolated interface board and education kit are available with application notes and demo software with graphing and logging functions. Available in a 28-pin DIP, price is $17.50 each.
