Combining the advantages of voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) modules, such as fast design time and guaranteed performance, with the low cost of discrete VCO designs, the MAX2622/MAX2623 SiGe VCOs are designed for ISM-band radios and cordless phones. The devices are said to occupy only one-third the board space of modules or discrete designs. The MAX2622 has a guaranteed 855- to 881-MHz tuning range, making it ideal for systems operating in the European 866- to 868-MHz ISM band that use an IF of around11 MHz. The MAX2623 has an 885- to 950-MHz tuning range, leaving it suited for use in Digital European Cordless Telephone systems in both receive and transmit mode. The device's output is easily matched to 50 ohms using just two capacitors. The device is housed in an 8-pin µMAX packages.
