Universal Power Management Chipset Claimed As An Industry First
The new Vcore power chipset is said to be the industry's first power supply conversion solution capable of powering both Intel's and AMD's most advanced microprocessors. The configurable Vcore, which incorporates the company's Combi-Sense topology, enables PC motherboard designers and manufacturers to standardize on a single power solution for any microprocessor designed to Intel's 10.X VRD (VR down on board) and 9.X VRM (voltage regulator module) specifications or AMD's K8 or K7 specifications. The chipset is comprised of the SC2643VX scalable, multiphase dc/dc controller and the SC1211 high-speed MOSFET driver. The new chipset provides on-the-fly processor voltage identification (VID) code sensing, setting Vcore output voltages automatically. Output-signal phase relationships are programmable for two-, three-, or four-phase operation. The SC2643VX controller's integrated six-bit d/a converter provides output voltages in 12.5 mV increments with a 0.5% precision set-point accuracy, to meet VRM 10.X voltage specifications. It is available in a 24-pin SOIC package or a 24-pin TSSOP, while the SC1211 MOSFET drivers come in SO-8 packages. For further information and prices, call SEMTECH CORP., Camarillo, CA.
