Fashioned in the company's SPX format, the Serial Peripheral eXpansion (SPX) modules offer users what is said to be an easy-to-implement I/O expansion platform for both standard and custom functions. The SPX format employs a proprietary version of the SPI Bus that operates at high speed on a 14-pin interconnect cable. Initial SPX offerings include an eight-channel analog-input module, CANbus controller, four-channel analog-output module, TTL I/O port expansion, and an eight-channel solid-state switch. Additional off-the-shelf modules are slated for future development. Up to four SPX modules, of identical or diverse functionality, can be used per system. They can be bolted to the host board or located up to two feet away. All SPX modules are RoHS compliant and specify an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Single-module pricing starts at $60 and pricing for custom modules is available upon request. VERSALOGIC CORP., Eugene, OR. (800) 824-3163.
