Taking up less than 0.5 square inch of board space, the Si3000, a 16-bit voiceband codec, integrates more than 50 discrete components for a 50% cost savings compared with typical voice-channel implementations. The device also can be used with the firm’s silicon DAAs to create a complete voice and modem front end in less than 2.5 square inches.Other features include an on-chip microphone preamplifier, analog mixer, headphone driver, digital volume control, and a 2-4 wire hybrid for handset support. As a result, the device is suited for applications such as data/fax/voice modems, Web phones, feature-rich phones, and fax machines. High voice quality is achieved through 16-bit ADCs and DACs with 85 dB dynamic range and 0.02% distortion.
