A dual-channel, hot-pluggable device, the Lightning PMC Gigabit Ethernet module is the first to implement the PICMG Packet Switched Backplane (PSB) 2.16 standard. It delivers an aggregate throughput of 4 Gbits/s over ordinary Category 5 or 6 copper wiring. The module is available with either one or two Gigabit Ethernet channels and can be used with any VMEbus or CompactPCI baseboard that provides PMC slots. It comes with drivers for most major baseboard operating systems, including Windows NT, Windows 2000, VxWorks, and Linux. Available immediately, the Lightning PMC module costs $695 for a single-channel configuration.
