Two additions to the Onami DC/DC converter series have come to market with a rich set of features. The Onami 5-V and Onami 12-V modules specifically target computer- and communications-equipment OEMs. Designers can use them in many different design configurations. And they can take advantage of their small size and high efficiency.
The Onami power modules are used to convert a standard 36-V dc to 75-V dc (48 V) power input to drive 5-V dc or 12-V dc intermediate bus architectures, fans, and other loads. Input redundancy, current monitoring, and power-okay signals make Onami modules flexible enough to be used in many design configurations. The 5-V Onami delivers an 88% efficient output at 25 A, while the Onami 12-V delivers 89% efficiency at 10 A. Such high efficiency levels enable the converters to be used without additional heatsinks. An active output-current-sharing feature allows them to be used in parallel to create even lower voltage levels.
The Onami series offers maximum reliability. In fact, it is expected to deliver two million hours mean time before failure (MTBF). A range of safety features offers protection against high voltage or temperature extremes. The Onami 5-V and 12-V modules are also compact, measuring just 3.596 × 1.625 × 0.39 in. (91.08 × 41.28 × 9.9 mm). This allows them to help minimize board space when used in multi-processor applications.
The Onami 5-V and 12-V modules are now available. They are priced at $85.10 in 1000-unit quantities.
