Ramtron International's new FM25L512 device provides increased data collection and storage capacity in a tiny, 8-pin package.

The new FM25L512, a 512kb, 3V nonvolatile FRAM device, comes replete with a high-speed serial peripheral interface (SPI). Ramtron International's device provides increased data collection and storage capacity in a tiny, 8-pin package. As such, it cuts costs and space applications ranging from multifunction printers to industrial motor controllers.

The device's industry-compatible SPI interface leverages the high-speed write capability of FRAM technology. A direct hardware replacement for equivalent EEPROMs, the FM25L512 offers NoDelay reads, writes at bus speeds of up to 20MHz, 10-year data retention, and virtually unlimited read/write endurance. It operates from 3.0 to 3.6V, and is rated over the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85°C.

"The FM25L512 offers our 256kb serial FRAM customers double the memory in the same small footprint," says Mike Alwais, Ramtron VP of marketing. "System designers can increase data-collection capacity without increasing board space in next-generation printer and motor control designs."
