IEEE 1394 Connectors Link Consumer Electronics To PCs

March 1, 1999

The four-circuit 1394 A/V connectors enable designers to construct a digital link between consumer electronic equipment and PCs. The connectors' profile is just 5.9 mm for pc board space savings of about 45% compared with standard six-circuit 1394 connectors. Sporting an SMT-compatible, through-hole design, the connectors feature shell solder tabs, metal hold-down pegs, and rigid pc board tails for greater mechanical strength. Their gold-plated, leaf-style contacts withstand up to 1000 mating cycles and are recessed for ESD protection. A full metal shield supports EMI/RFI requirements. Plugs are available as fully tested assemblies in cable lengths of 1, 2 and 4.5 meters.
