Shielded SMT Mini-DIN Connector Housed In Slim Package

Oct. 1, 1998

Taking aim at the audio, video, computer and digital equipment markets, the KMDT Series of Mini-DIN surface-mount connectors has been housed in a new, slimmer package that requires less board space than standard mini-DIN connectors. The body of the new connector is made from a high-temperature, UL94V-0-rated thermoplastic that can withstand reflow soldering processes and the shield employs tin-plated phosphor bronze. The design of the front shield is also said to help eliminate radiated noise problems. Also, the leads are said to have a true surface-mount design, with the gold-plated contacts employing a crimped design for greater retention strength. The connectors are available in both 4- and 6-contact counts. Contact resistance after test is 100 milliohms maximum and insulation resistance is 500 Megaohms minimum. Current rating is 1A at 18 vdc.
