Targeted at applications such as digital TVs, set-top boxes, camcorders, high-speed printers, and other digital products requiring a high-speed connection, PDI1394P11A chip is an enhanced 200-Mb/s IEEE 1394-1995, 3-port, physical layer interface device supporting interoperability with all existing industry 100/200-Mb/s designs. The interoperability simplifies designs and reduces cost, as software modifications are no longer required to compensate for this problem. The chip is also said to be the first physical layer device to be packaged in a 64-pin BGA to minimize board area requirements. And it also can improve the performance and reliability of the 1394 bus, it’s claimed, by implementing a subset of the 1394a spec.
