Power Distribution Switches Serve USB Apps

Jan. 1, 2000

High-performance universal serial bus (USB) and peripheral designs are the application goals of the RYC8000 family of power distribution switches. Providing power switching and in-rush current limiting capabilities, the switches are designed for USB self-powered hub applications, such as notebook PCs, self/bus-powered stand-alone USB hubs, USB bus-powered hubs in keyboards, and USB peripherals such as CCD cameras. The switches control the flow of power to USB ports by means of USB controller commands. They signal the controller when faults such as over-current, over-temperature, under-voltage lockout or over-voltage lockout are detected.
