The PhotonIC 980-nm, eight-port EDFA pump source and eight-port variable optical attenuator (VOA) have been introduced as part of the company's plans to provide integrated array-based components for fiber-optic applications. The pump source provides eight independently controllable fiber outputs from a board-mounted optical module. Features include a small footprint with integrated frequency stabilization and power-level sensing. The eight-port waveguide-based VOA array is capable of delivering more than 30 dB of dynamic attenuation while consuming less than 10 mW of drive power per port. These opto components are based on a polymer waveguide design that is said to provide low insertion loss, a small footprint, and electronically controllable attenuation.
